Welcome to Year 4

Welcome to Year 4!

Our teacher is Miss Williams and our teaching assistants are Mrs Hooton, Miss Hughes and Mrs Medlycott. Mrs Edwards will be helping us with our ICT lessons.

This half term we will develop and extend our learning through lots of exciting activities and topics, including: Comparing Locations in Geography, Sound in Science, cooking vegetable lasagne in D&T and learning about the Easter story in RE. We will also be enjoying hockey and dance in PE.
PE will be hockey on Tuesday mornings and dance on Friday afternoons. Please ensure your child has their P.E. kit in school all week so that we can adapt to the weather conditions. Remember that earrings and watches must be removed for P.E. lessons.
On Wednesday afternoons we will continue to develop our musical skills as we learn to play the ukulele with our specialist teacher from Leicestershire Music, Mr Trueman. The children will be able to bring the ukulele home so please encourage them to practise the skills they have learned during the lessons. Please ensure that they bring it back into school on Tuesdays so they always have it for the lesson.

Homework will be set on Fridays and needs to be finished by Thursday morning, unless otherwise directed. This includes a piece of written maths (to support our learning in class) and 30 minutes of Times Tables Rock Stars. Spelling tasks, focused on the week's key words, will be sent home sometimes too.

We like the children to read to an adult at home for 15 minutes at least 3 times a week. Please remember to sign and date your child's reading diary so we have a record of their reading and any issues that they may need help with in school. It's also really beneficial for your children to hear you read to them so please try to include this in your weekly sessions.
