Welcome to Cedar Class (Year 4)

Welcome to the Summer term!

Our teachers are Miss Williams and Miss Laing (Trainee Beginning Teacher) and our teaching assistants are Mrs Moore and Mrs Hooton. Mrs Edwards will be helping us with our ICT lessons and Mr Trueman (from Leicestershire Music Services) will be teaching us singing and the ukulele in Music.

This half term we will develop and extend our learning through lots of exciting activities and topics, including: The Anglo Saxons in History, Teeth and the Digestive System in Science, textiles in D&T, and Managing Risk in PSHE.
PE will be on Wednesday and Friday afternoons and we will be developing our rounders and netball skills. Please ensure your child has their complete P.E. kit in school all week so that we can adapt to the weather conditions.  Remember that earrings and watches must be removed for all P.E. lessons.
Music will be on Wednesday afternoons. At the end of the summer term we will be performing some of the songs and pieces we have learned to play on the ukulele so keep an eye out for the date.

Homework will be set on Fridays and needs to be finished by Thursday morning, unless otherwise directed. This will include a piece of written maths (to support our learning in class) or a spelling task, focused on the week's key words. 30 minutes of Times Tables Rock Stars will also be set on Mondays and should be completed by the following Monday. Short 5-10 minute sessions spread over the week are the best way for the children to develop their knowledge and speed of recall. Completing the sessions is especially important now as after half-term we will have our Multiplication Assessment.

We like the children to read to an adult at home for 15 minutes at least 3 times a week. Please remember to sign and date your child's reading diary every time you hear them so there's an up-to-date record. Please also make a note of any reading issues that they may need help with in school. It's also really beneficial for your children to hear you read to them so please try to include this in your weekly sessions.
