PE & Sport

Our Curriculum Vision for PE

At Woodstone, we aim to instil a passion for PE and sports to ensure that every child has the opportunity to be the best they can be in PE lessons, sports competitions and festivals, active playtimes and across the whole curriculum. Through physical education and sport, we aim to teach our pupils new skills and values and show them how to improve in a safe, fun and stimulating environment. By providing a wide variety of sporting opportunities both in school and off-site, our pupils will become healthy and active young people ready for the next stage of their lives. We strive to give children the opportunity to compete internally (intra-school), and with other schools (inter-school) to instil values of teamwork, determination, respect, encouragement, passion and communication.

Physical Literacy
"Physical literacy is our relationship with movement and physical activity throughout life."
Physical literacy refers to the degree to which we have a positive and meaningful relationship with movement and physical activity. The quality of our relationship with movement and physical activity profoundly influences our choice to be active. Ultimately the idea is that the more positive your associations and relationship with being active is, the more likely you are to be active and the more physically literate you are. Positive sport and physical activity experiences impact your physical literacy. (NWLSSP, 2025)

60 Active Minutes
Children should be hitting 60 active minutes per day, with at least 30 active minutes within the school day. This may include how they travel to/from school, activities they participate in during break/lunch time, curriculum PE lessons, Forest School sessions, extra-curricular activities/events/competitions, movement/brain breaks or physical activity outside of school.
Inclusion
In order to ensure inclusive practices across our events and competitions, we try to enter a range of Inspire, Develop & Excel events.
Excel events are typically for our most elite athletes, while Develop events are designed to help develop skills and increase participation. Inspire events have the potential for different pupils to take part in sport & physical activity outside of the Excel and Develop events, whilst developing both sport-transferrable skills and life-skills.

PE & Sport Lead

I'm passionate about PE and sport both in and out of school. I love going to the gym and a wide variety of sports matches in my spare time. I strive to inject this passion into my PE role at Woodstone, both within the PE curriculum and extra-curricular sporting activities.
