Welcome to Birch class

Welcome to Birch (Year 5)!

Our class teachers are Mrs. Kennedy (M, Tu and W morning) and Mrs. Pimperton (W,Th,F). Miss Pullinger and Mrs Medlycott are our Teaching Assistants and Mrs. Edwards teaches us ICT.

Our topics this half-term are The Mayans in history and Forces in science. Keep an eye on our Class News page to see examples of what we get up to and learn.
We have PE on Monday and Friday but like everyone to have their PE kit in school all week. Earrings and watches must be removed for all PE lessons and long hair tied back.

This half-term we are playing volleyball and tag rugby.

Pencil cases are not allowed at the moment - a named blue Frixion pen is allowed.

Water bottles are kept on tables so please use a bottle with a sports cap filled only with water.

Please name all articles of clothing to ensure their safe return if lost.

Each week we have key areas to focus on for homework to help and support the work we do in school:

1) Times Tables Rock Stars helps us to learn and improve our multiplication knowledge and we should do this for at least 30 minutes over the week. It is due by 8:30 on a Tuesday morning.

2) Reading our book aloud to an adult and discussing its content really helps us to understand the meaning and messages within them. Learning the definitions of new words and following a grammatically correct structure helps us to improve our writing skills as well. We should read at least 3 times per week for a minimum of 15 minutes each time to gain the best results. Reading diaries are checked on a Friday.

3) Other homework is set weekly - it is set on a Tuesday and needs to be completed for the following Monday.

4) Spellings are set on a Thursday and it is possible to practise the words at home through the Spelling Shed website.
